History
A date is written on the wall of House Benedikta: 1836. That is how long the house has been standing here, close to the forest, with a view of the village and the mountains at its back. The timber façade tells of countless sunlit hours that have darkened the wood, and the original front door has been opening for visitors and friends for more than a hundred years.
In earlier days, Benedikta — the woman the house is named after — farmed here in tune with nature. A strong, independent woman with an eye for beauty. "Every possession is only lent to us" was Benedikta's mantra — and what is lent must be treated with care. She chose every piece in the house thoughtfully and, though she lived frugally, valued the very best quality. Her granddaughter Elisabeth Brändle carries that spirit forward: she has gently transformed the house into a luxurious, one-of-a-kind guesthouse.

“House Benedikta has become a place to feel at home and unwind.”
Elisabeth Brändle
Architecture
How do you give a house back its old garment and still create comfort? That was the task facing the owner Elisabeth Brändle and architect Dieter Klammer of ArchitekturTerminal Hackl und Klammer. Through a thorough renovation and revitalisation, the character of the house has not only been preserved but brought to shine.
The roof, renewed around 1970, was returned to its original state during the renovation and once again clad in wooden shingles. The white box-frame windows were faithfully reconstructed. Alongside the house sits the so-called "Schopf" — a side annex housing a sauna with balcony.
Old goes hand in hand with new inside as well: the parlour with its Montafon stove on the ground floor was left untouched; only the parents' bedroom became a living room. The masonry kitchen was modernised. The upper floor was completely opened up and stripped back to the wooden beams to create airy space. A staircase of black steel leads upstairs, where stone and pale silver fir dominate.

Sleeping
Up the steel staircase to the upper floor, the open lounge leads to three hidden refuges: the bedrooms of House Benedikta. Stepping into these bright rooms — simple yet shaped with great love for detail — you leave everyday life at the door. This is your retreat from the world outside.
Four bedrooms await you in the house. One room has a sleeping gallery with a bunk bed (120 × 200 cm) above the double bed — room for one or two children. Every bedroom has its own bathroom with shower and WC. Upstairs, the light-filled lounge invites you to relax: watch the clouds drift past through the large panoramic window, sink into the comfortable armchairs, and spend good time together.
Each bedroom has a handcrafted double bed with quality mattresses, dressed in fine linen sheets. The middle room also features a sleeping gallery with an extra bed (120 × 200 cm). The elegant en-suite bathroom — dark stone tiles, black fittings — is your personal wellness retreat. You will also find a hairdryer and premium products by ResaWants, a Vorarlberg cosmetics brand that draws on the power of alpine herbs.

Kitchen
Grandma Benedikta liked to buy her food from farmers and dairymen in the neighbourhood. To this day, House Benedikta follows the same principle, and we love to recommend regional producers. On request, we will take care of the shopping for you, restock your fridge to your taste, or deliver a fresh breakfast basket each day. We are also happy to cook for you personally — Austrian specialities or Vorarlberg home cooking.
A new kitchen also moved into House Benedikta with the renovation: simple stainless steel, equipped with the most modern appliances, it is a playground for enthusiastic home cooks. Conjure your favourite dishes on the induction hob and in the oven, and perhaps discover a new favourite from Austrian cuisine in our cookbooks.
When the aroma of home cooking fills the entire house, the original Montafon tables in the cosy parlour are set. Take your seat on the black corner bench with soft cushions and enjoy the time together, without any rush.

Relaxing
Of course you can conquer mountains around House Benedikta, take long walks, or go skiing. But you don't have to. The chalet, set right in the idyllic Montafon, is also perfect for doing nothing at all: letting the sun warm your face in the garden in summer, watching snowflakes dance past the window in winter. Anyone wanting to combine slow living with a touch of wellness can settle into the private sauna, soak up the warmth and gaze at the mountain peaks.
The sauna in the "Schopf" — the side annex — is open to you at any time during your stay. We provide sauna and bath towels. A door leads from the sauna straight into the garden: a glorious cool-down in autumn and winter.
The large garden surrounding Benedikta is a favourite spot for guests all year round: we have set out garden furniture, a parasol and a grill / fire bowl for you. You are welcome to use the herbs from the garden in the kitchen.
